Our Last Program is with New York Times Bestselling Author Eric Blehm

The Darkest White with Eric Blehm

It's hard to believe we lost Craig 22 years ago... Join us Friday March 28th at the Colorado Snowsports Museum in Vail for a special presentation with award-winning and New York Times Bestselling author Eric Blehm. In his current book, "The Darkest White," Eric returns to his mountain roots and tells the story of snowboarding's original superstar and the sport's first true professional -- Craig Kelly. Often called the “the Michael Jordan of snowboarding”—Craig walked away from the fame and fortune associated with competition to return to the powdery backcountry that originally drew him to his calling and ultimately took his life. Craig died in an avalanche in British Columbia, Canada, in 2003.

$20/Museum Members & $25/Non-Members, proceeds benefit the CSM, a nonprofit. Ticket includes light refreshments, Tincup Whiskey, and a raffle ticket for various giveaways, including snowboards from Burton, Weston, and Season. More raffle tickets can be purchased onsite.

This event was made possible by Backcountry Magazine, with additional support from TINCUP® Mountain Whiskey, Purl Wax, Weston, Burton, Phantom Snow Industries, Evo, and Season Equipment.

“Skiing in Colorado”

“Skiing in Colorado” Celebrates its One-Year Anniversary!

Selling nearly 400 copies, this volume includes photographs from the Colorado Snowsports Museum that illustrate and celebrate the history of skiing in Colorado.

Skiing in Colorado evolved from a transportation necessity to a world-class recreational pursuit. The first documented use of skis in Colorado occurred in the winter of 1859. As the popularity of the activity grew, ski resorts opened throughout the state. After World War II, Colorado saw a boom in the industry along with advancements in equipment, lifts, and safety; the development of ski schools; and the opening of new ski areas.

Commemorative Flag Program

Remember & Honor

The Colorado Snowsports Museum is to launch our commemorative flag program this July 4th. In honor of your loved one, this is a meaningful way to pay tribute to 10th Mountain Division soldiers. The Museum will hang a 10th Mountain Division flag on the truss above the Museum's front door.  In the window to the right, we will tell the story of your loved one. The photo and story will be in the window along with the flag. Once flown, we will send you the flag that was hung, the framed tribute, and a certificate that states this flag was hung in honor of your loved one. We invite you to recognize their service and sacrifice while supporting a good cause. Proceeds from the program will go towards fulfilling the Colorado Snowsports Museum and Hall of Fame’s mission to celebrate Colorado snow sports by telling stories, including those of veterans, that educate and inspire others to seek adventure. Help us keep the 10th Mountain Division legacy alive.

James Bond Snowboard — Now on Display!

The Colorado Snowsports Museum and Hall of Fame is excited to announce that the Tom Sims snowboard ridden in the James Bond movie “A View to a Kill” is now back on display at the Museum. Generously on loan to us by Hilary Sims, through the Colorado Snowboard Archive, this piece of pop culture was for many - the first snowboard they ever saw.
