Legacy Weekend & the 80th Anniversary of Riva Ridge Events:

Celebrating the Legacy and History of the 10th Mountain Division at the Colorado Snowsports Museum, in the Town of Vail, and on Vail Mountain. Welcome soldiers, veterans, descendants, and friends of the 10th.

Friday, February 21, 5:15 pm - Unknown Tales of the 10th with Lance Blyth at the Colorado Snowsports Museum. Explore untold stories of the 10th Mountain Division with the author of Ski, Climb, Fight, available for purchase and signing. Lance R. Blyth is the Command Historian of the North American Aerospace Defense Command and the U.S. Northern Command. He is also an Adjunct Professor of History at the United States Air Force Academy and an experienced backcountry skier.

This program is part of the CSM’s Through the Lens series and is ticketed.

Saturday, Feb. 22nd:

  • Meet & Eat with the 10th: 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM | Meet at Sarge's Shelter at Mid-Vail for lunch with the 10th Mountain Soldiers.

  • 80th Anniversary Riva Ridge presentation by the WWII Foundation - 3 pm, at the Colorado Snowsports Museum. This will be an applied history session that explores the 10th Mountain Division's role in the Italian Campaign, emphasizing leadership, resilience, and tactical ingenuity. The discussion will connect these historical lessons to modern leadership challenges, making history relevant beyond the battlefield. We welcome John Fenzel, Special Forces (USA, Retired) from the WWII Foundation, Joe Donato, an Ambassador for the World War II Foundation, and General Naumann, Commanding General of the 10th Mountain Division.

    ***This event is FREE.

  • 10th Mountain Division Parade: 6:30 PM - Torchlight Parade, Fireworks, 10th Mountain Tribute Video, Parade down Bridge Street to 10th Statue. Photos and Commemorative pins.

    ****The Colorado Snowsports Museum is open until 8 pm on parade nights. Come learn about the 10th’s history and legacy.

    Sunday, Feb. 23rd:

  • Blackhawk Helicopter Landing on Vail Mountain: 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM | Top of Avanti Express Lift (#2)

  • Ski Troopers Cup: 2:30 PM | Vail Village Mountain Plaza. 3-man Teams competing in skills and strengths tests on Pepi’s.

Vail History Walking Tours

Vail History Tours All Winter Season!

Meet at the Museum on Tuesdays/Thursdays at 11 am to start a one-hour history walk.

The program is $10 per person with proceeds benefitting the Museum. Help us keep admission FREE by supporting our programs or becoming a member.

WATCH - Climb to Glory, the story of the legendary troopers of the 10th Mountain Division

This 45-minute documentary film, produced by Warren Miller Entertainment, chronicles the legendary history of World War II’s 10th Mountain Division. From training at Colorado’s Camp Hale to helping end the war in Europe with dramatic victories on Italy’s Riva Ridge and Mount Belvedere, Climb to Glory is an entertaining and educational look back at these heroic mountain troopers. Airing continuously in the Museum’s 10th Mountain Division Theater.

Narrated by Olympian and future Colorado Ski & Snowboard Museum inductee Jeremy Bloom and inspired by Warren Miller Athlete Chris Anthony "Climb to Glory" highlights their astounding impact to our country and the ski industry while incorporating the fun and flair of Warren Miller films.
