Katy, a Colorado native, started skiing at the age of 14 in Steamboat Springs, under the instruction of ski coach, Al Wegeman. She was named to the United States FIS Team that competed in the World Championships in Aspen in 1950. Katy was named to two US Olympic Teams in 1952 and 1956. From 1949 to 1956, Katy won nine national titles. She was inducted in the National Ski Hall of Fame in 1966.
