Al Wegeman

Known as "Bird" Wegeman during his early jumping days in Wisconsin, Al brought his love for skiing with him when he moved to Colorado. He sought to share the sport with everyone in town and when Winter Park opened, he became its first ski instructor. Between 1943 and 1949, he taught jumping and racing in the schools at Steamboat Springs. He was the first coach to be hired by a public school system in Colorado.
