Don organized the Pikes Peak Ski Club in 1936 and served as President for ten years. He conceived and installed the first mechanized tow in Colorado, a rope tow powered by an old Whippet car engine. He served as Vice President of the US Western Ski Association and was a National Ski Patrolman. In 1948, he built the Elk Park area on Pikes Peak. He was influential in forming the Pikes Peak Ski Corporation.
