John McMurtry
John was head technical coach for the women’s Olympic and World Cup Alpine Teams. Between 1980 and 1984, his athletes won every major international title including the Nation’s Cup and Olympic gold. This became the most successful four years in the history of US Alpine Skiing. In honor of his contribution to the state, city, and skiing, Colorado Governor Richard Lamm and Denver Mayor William McNichols Jr renamed November 13, 1982 “John McMurtry Day.”
