Ray Duncan
Ray first arrived in the town of Durango in 1958. In an attempt to develop a new ski area, he raised funds, purchased land, and secured the necessary permits. In 1966, the Durango Ski Corporation was born and Purgatory Ski Resort opened. For his efforts, he was named Man of the Year by the Durango Chamber of Commerce in 1966. In 1972, he served as chairman of the board for Colorado Ski Country USA.
