WIlliam 'Bill' Sterett (1)
Since arriving in Vail in 1993, Dr. William Sterett has dedicated his career to sports medicine for world-class athletes, with a focus on elite skiers. After a fellowship at the Steadman-Hawkins Clinic and a rare second fellowship in orthopaedic trauma in Switzerland and Germany, he helped transform Steadman-Hawkins from a two-physician practice into a globally renowned orthopaedic institution.
As Managing Partner, he became one of the nation’s most prolific ACL and complex knee reconstruction surgeons. For 25 years,he served as Head Team Physician for the U.S. Women’s Alpine Ski Team, working with Picabo Street, Mikaela Shiffrin, and Resi Stiegler.

Trent Bush (1)
Trent has moved Colorado snowsports forward on a global scale, creating its culture, building its gear, and protecting its history. As a teenager, he drove the sport’s early growth through Wave Rave Boulder, organizing landmark snowboard events. His career spans four decades, from Twist, Burton/Analog, and SECTION to leadership roles at Mountain Hardwear, Black Diamond, and ARTILECT.
He has driven product design at the highest levels of performance across snowboarding, backcountry, and alpine skiing, shaping Colorado-driven innovation that reached the world, including for the Beijing 2022 US Olympic Uniform program while at Spyder.
Trent embraced, legitimized, and accelerated the growth of snowboarding, including advocating for women athletes. He has been instrumental in ensuring an accurate and meaningful representation for snowboarding through leadership and unwavering dedication to advancing and protecting snowboarding within the broader snow sports community.

Tim and Tracey Canaday (2)
The Canaday brothers founded Never Summer Snowboards, one of Colorado’s—and the world’s—most successful snowboard brands, producing boards in their Denver manufacturing facility to this day. Their influence extends beyond their own brand: the factory has also supported independent ski companies, including Icelantic Skis, Fat-ypus Skis, High Society Freeride Company, and Rocky Mountain Underground (RMU), helping sustain domestic ski and snowboard manufacturing.
Never Summer began in 1991 when the Canaday brothers relaunched their earlier venture, Swift Snowboards, founded in 1983 in Fort Collins after first testing homemade boards in the Berthoud Pass backcountry. For more than three decades, Never Summer has driven rider-focused innovation while strengthening Colorado’s reputation for snowsports creativity and craftsmanship.

Robert 'Bo' Parfet (1)
Bo Parfet is an elite Colorado ski mountaineer whose accomplishments have helped elevate the state’s reputation in the sport worldwide. One of roughly 127 Americans to complete the Seven Summits, he has carried out demanding ski descents on major peaks across four continents, including the first recorded descents of Nevado Sajama and Illimani in Bolivia.
He has also skied many of Colorado’s iconic peaks, highlighting the state’s rugged terrain and mountaineering tradition. Many expeditions supported humanitarian causes, linking adventure with philanthropy. Through books, public speaking, and outreach, Parfet has spotlighted Colorado’s 14ers and strengthened the state’s standing as a hub for ski mountaineering and purpose-driven outdoor culture.

Paul Ramer (2)
Paul Ramer was among the first generation of Colorado skiers to promote alpine touring and became the first American manufacturer of alpine touring and backcountry ski equipment. Founded in Colorado in 1974, Ramer’s innovations allowed skiers to tour and climb with a free heel while locking the heel for stable descents, opening backcountry skiing to a much wider audience.
A passionate and vocal advocate for people getting out to enjoy the satisfaction and adventure of simply being in the mountains, Paul believed alpine touring would popularize backcountry skiing. His ideas helped shape the modern backcountry industry. In 2002, Couloir Magazine’s Peter Kray called him “the Thomas Edison of ski mountaineering.” Ramer equipment was used on expeditions and first ski descents worldwide.

Michael & Steven Marolt (1)
Steven and Michael Marolt are pioneering ski mountaineers whose high-altitude descents have redefined the limits of the sport. They became the first Americans to ski from an 8,000-meter peak on Shishapangma and among the only athletes in history to complete multiple 8,000-meter ski descents, including Cho Oyu.
Their achievements span first descents across the Himalayas and Andes, including Everest’s North Ridge and numerous peaks in South America. Known for climbing and skiing in pure alpine style without supplemental oxygen or support, the Marolt brothers set a global standard for endurance, commitment, and progression—cementing their legacy as some of the most influential figures in the evolution of extreme ski mountaineering.

Lhotse Merriam Hawk (1)
Llotse Merriam Hawk is a pioneering sport builder and entrepreneur whose leadership helped transform freeskiing from a fringe movement into a globally recognized discipline. In 1996, she co-founded the International Freeskiers Association (IFSA) in Crested Butte alongside Shane McConkey, creating the first athlete-driven competitive structure for big-mountain and freeride skiing.
As IFSA’s Vice President, she built the sport’s foundational systems—sanctioned events, judging standards, rankings, and global expansion—turning freeskiing into a viable professional pathway. Her work helped legitimize freeride competition and laid the groundwork for the sport’s evolution onto the world stage, influencing disciplines now featured in the Winter Olympics. Widely regarded as the“godmother of freeride, ”Hawk’s lasting impact continues to shape the culture, structure, and opportunities within modern snowsports.

Karen Ghent (1)
Karen is a distinguished figure in American alpine skiing whose career spans high-level competition, elite coaching, sport leadership, governance, and international officiating. Known for her dedication to athlete development and service to the alpine community, Karen’s journey reflects both high-performance athletic achievement and longstanding contributions to the sport. Named to the US Ski Team in 1980, Karen competed as a technical specialist and earned multiple top 30 results on the Alpine World Cup.
Following retirement, she began a 25-year odyssey with Ski & Snowboard Club Vail, holding various roles and culminating in her leadership as Alpine Director. Karen extended her service to the ski racing community, holding various positions at ski racing events, and she received her international FIAS Technical Delegate Certification, which has allowed her to officiate at events at all levels of competitive skiing, including World Cup & Olympic Events. Beyond her many accolades and the recognition she has earned across the sport, it is especially important to acknowledge the inspiration she has provided to other women, paving the way as a leader in a traditionally male-dominated field.

Jeffrey Grell (1)
Jeffrey Grell is a pioneering force in snowboarding whose 1983–84 invention of the“Hybak” high-back binding—built from modified ski boot cuffs—introduced precise heel-side control and revolutionized the sport. He patented the design, demonstrated its impact on Aspen’s Tiehack, and helped transform the sport of snowboarding from a fringe activity into a widely adopted discipline. Working with Tom Sims, he refined binding and board designs that remain industry standards and later co-founded the Rocky Mountain Snowboard Factory.
A 1985 Rocky Mountain Championships slalom champion, Grell also shaped the sport’s future as Aspen’s first Director of Snowboarding, co-author of the PSIA instruction handbook, creator of one of the first snowboard instructional videos, and a longtime coach, clinician, and FIS Technical Delegate—while organizing and backing hundreds of early competitions.

Gary DeFrange (1)
Gary DeFrange is a transformative leader in Colorado’s ski industry, best known for reshaping Winter Park Resort. During his role as CEO for 20 years, Gary turned Winter Park into a premier destination through major expansions such as the Panoramic Express, as well as developing the resort’s year-round, vibrant village.
A champion of accessibility, Gary worked with the National Sports Center for the Disabled for decades. He played a key role in reviving Colorado’s ski train by developing the Winter Park Express, making accessibility to one of Colorado’s flagship resorts easier than ever on a local and global scale.

Chupa Nelson (1)
Richard A. “Chupa” Nelson has had a lasting impact on snow sports in Colorado and across the nation through his leadership in mountain safety and rescue innovation. As a longtime leader of the Vail Ski Patrol, he helped advance modern patrol practices and emergency response at ski areas across the country. Chupa gained national recognition for his heroic role in the rescue following the 1976 Vail gondola accident, where his calm, decisive actions helped save passengers from all over the state of Colorado and our country, under extraordinary circumstances. His courage and expertise exemplify the dedication and skill of mountain first responders. The accident and his life saving actions prompted a reevaluation of Colorado’s ski-transit systems and their security.
Beyond patrol work, Chupa also volunteered for many years as a coach in the Buddy Werner League, inspiring young skiers and strengthening Colorado’s ski community.

Chris Pappas (2)
For 45 years, Chris has been integral in the evolution of Colorado’s snowboarding landscape, distinguishing himself as a pioneer in the sport’s early competitive and big-mountain arenas, as well as a visionary mentor and coach to countless up-and-coming athletes. Chris was an evangelist of early Colorado snowboarding, working with ski areas toopen their minds-and lifts-to snowboarding.
As a competitor, he helped define and break boundaries. Since retiring, Chris has shifted his focus to coaching, and 50 years later, is still moving snowboarding forward. There is no person in Colorado, and maybe the world, who has personally affected as many riders, or has been a greater advocate of the possibilities and joy of snowboarding than Chris.

Casey Puckett (1)
Casey Puckett is a uniquely accomplished skier and coach whose career spans over two decades at the highest levels of Alpine and Freestyle competition. A five-time Olympian, he earned global recognition with a fourth-place finish at the Hahnenkamm and four X-Games Ski Cross medals, including two golds.
Widely regarded as one of the most versatile skiers in history, he later transitioned into elite coaching, leading programs for the U.S. Ski Team and Aspen Valley Ski & Snowboard Club. Casey combines his years of expertise in performance, nutrition, and psychology to mentor athletes, helping them reach the World Cup level and achieve their full potential.

Bob Gleason (2)
Passion for skiing, and for making the sport better and more comfortable for skiers, has been Bob’s life objective. Over five decades, he has trained tens of thousands in the science and art of ski and snowboard boot fitting, including shop staff and industry professionals, in Colorado and around the globe. His Boot Doctors shop was the incubator job for many of the world’s best boot fitters.
Bob helped develop an impressive amount of ski equipment, consulting with Rossignol, Dolomite, Nordica, K2, and Black Diamond. He is a Colorado native, a legend in the industry, and in his 70th season skiing, a most worthy inductee to the Colorado Snowsports Hall of Fame.

Alan Henceroth (1)
Alan Henceroth has built a distinguished career spanning more than four decades in the Colorado ski industry. He has served as Chief Operating Officer of Arapahoe Basin Ski Area since 2005, after previously holding roles as Director of Mountain Operations (1998–2005) and Ski Patrol Director (1988–1998). Under his leadership, Arapahoe Basin has seen significant growth and modernization, including the 400-acre Montezuma Bowl expansion, Black Mountain Lodge, Black Mountain Express Chairlift, and major guest service enhancements.
Earlier in his career, Henceroth worked as a ski patroller and supervisor at Keystone Resort and served as a Forest Technician with the U.S. Forest Service in Alaska, Washington, and Utah. Known for his strengths in financial management, planning, and team leadership, Henceroth has played a key role in shaping Arapahoe Basin’s continued success and creating a cultural of a rad work environment that is the envy of the industry.
