The Histories of Charlie Vail & Pete Seibert
With CU Denver Professor Rudi Hartmann
Join us at the Museum along with professor and historian, Rudi Hartmann, for a deep dive on Vail’s namesake, controversial highway designer, Charlie Vail, and Vail Mountain’s visionary, Pete Seibert.
Charlie Vail helped shape Colorado’s future. As chief highway engineer, he pushed I-70 across the Rockies instead of ending in Denver, opening the Western Slope to growth. Though he died before the highway, town, or ski resort were completed, his vision made Vail possible.
Pete Seibert was a visionary ski pioneer whose passion helped put Vail on the map. A 10th Mountain Division veteran, he dreamed of creating a world-class ski resort in Colorado’s high country. In 1962, that dream became Vail Ski Resort—shaping the town, the industry, and American skiing for generations to come.
